I live with my mom, but we've been fighting really often lately. Would it be better for me to move out and live on my own sometime this year?

Hyeon's answer

It is possible for you to become independent within this year, but for the remaining period, the time is more about creating some distance from the conflicts first than rushing to move your belongings out. The reason you are clashing at home now is not because your connection with your mother is weak, but because the closer you are, the more often your respective ways of living rub each other the wrong way. Moving out would not sever your relationship. Rather, there is a strong possibility that your arguments would decrease and both of you would feel more comfortable. ■■ has relatively weak innate roots, so if you take on all the responsibilities of living alone at once, your physical energy will run out before your emotional strength at first. However, you clearly have the ability to learn and acquire skills, as well as the talent to forge your own path, so you are not someone for whom independence is unsuitable. There is a quality of receiving support in your relationship with your mother, so you will remain emotionally connected, but when you clash every day in the same space, that support can easily feel like interference. Overall, 2026 is a year when ■■ regains their own strength, so it is a good time to prepare for independence and establish a foundation for daily life. However, in October, words and actions are likely to clash, and in November and December, issues involving household rules and responsibilities may become sensitive again, so the process of signing a contract or moving could be emotionally exhausting. For now, when an argument with your mother begins, do not try to reach a conclusion right there. Instead, write down the conditions for the place where you will live alone and your monthly living expenses. Keeping green objects or a small potted plant nearby, and walking in a park or along a wooded path in the morning, can help ■■ stay grounded when feeling shaken. What you should put off is declaring your independence on a day when your emotions are running high and signing a contract impulsively. This year, the first step toward independence begins not with the desire to find a home, but with designing a way of living that will make both you and your mother more comfortable.
